miscellaneous.

  • I gave up secular music and chocolate for Lent. So hard. Who knew Lent was so long!?

  • I love this. Very, very much. "I'm trying to grow mustache."

  • If you can, help this couple adopt a baby! Everyone. needs. babies.

  • I'm reading Gone with the Wind again. More thoroughly this time. (as in, not just reading the parts with Rhett Butler). I love it even more. If you haven't read it, put it on your list of books to read before you die.

  1. Oh I know! 40 days did NOT seem that long! I feel disconnected with the world without Tv and Ipod.I'm counting the days until Easter.

  3. OH OH OHHH!!!!! Les Miserables! It is always good to find someone else who loves it too. :)
The 25th anniversary version is gorgeous...it played on TV 3 or 4 times in the past month and I watched it every time. Though...I went back and read your old post...how on earth can you not like the Jean Valjean in the concert?! I love him and think he has an incredible voice! And then Nick Jonas..blehh. He did okay for Nick Jonas, but in Les Mis standards, in comparison to everyone else (think Enjolras, oh yeah baby) he was pretty lame. Eponine is gorgeous and has a gorgeous voice though = proof that life isn't fair.
So, the most exciting thing is that just a couple weeks ago, I went and actually saw the Broadway musical of Les Miserables live!!! It was uh-MAZ-ing. I knew most of the music by heart, had finished reading the whole unabridged book earlier that week, and I still cried in places I wasn't expecting to. It was just incredible and beautiful.
Aaand, I'm obsessed with Les Mis, if you couldn't tell. ;]

  6. Sweet outfit!! I am SO ready for spring, now!
Gone with the Wind is one of my all time favorite books and movies. Ever!! I cry when Melanie dies in both, and when they play "Taps" in the film.

  10. hmm...i think you're probably missing the purpose of fasting for lent then.

"Traditionally Lent is a season of sober, realistic reflection on our own lives and our need for a Savior. It is a time for turning away from anything that has kept us from God and for turning or returning to him. It is a time to pray that God renew our love for him and our dependence on him." ~ http://www.desiringgod.org/blog/posts/ash-wednesday-and-lenten-lights

just something to think about. :) i kinda know what you mean, it's definitely not easy! i gave up secular music also. but it's so worth it if we can use it to focus on Jesus and know a deeper love for Him. love you Susannah! :)

  11. Jennoelle--Actually, on my second viewing of it, I appreciated Alfie Boe much more. He definitely has an amazing voice... it's just that it's not my favorite TYPE of voice, and his voice and appearance don't seem to fit Valjean perfectly to me.

Anna Olivia--yes, I know... I have been having this argument with my sister for months. I could say a LOT about it. But mostly I think he did a good job, considering, and I personally like his voice.

Annie--Thanks for the reminder! The way I wrote that seemed flippant--but I meant that it was just way harder than I expected it to be. I'm realizing how important music and chocolate are to me... so it's definitely a good thing to have to give them up.

  12. Nick seems like a sweet boy. But I am very picky when it comes to good singing. He has a nice-sounding voice, but it is very weak and expressionless. If he worked on his voice more, I think he'd do a lot better. His acting is bothersome, though. Very, very poor acting indeed.

I don't hate him, though. =) I like him as a person. He's just not very talented. But what do you expect?... he wasn't ready for such a huge production as Les Miz. He was simply casted because CamMac figured that another celeb in the show would make it extra popular, when it really makes it lame.

But no. I don't hate him. =) Though maybe he should try again when he's 25, because, yes, he's way too young to play Marius, and his voice will be more developed by then.

Alfie Boe- don't get me started. hehe! Let's just say... major thumbs down to that guy. I like Nick Jonas better. o.O

  13. Lots of interesting comments on this post. Lent is a great thing, but like Annie P said: so much gets lost in translation.
Not saying this to be mean and judgmental, but just my thoughts. :)

  14. "But, Scarlett, you need kissing badly. That's what's wrong with you. All your beaux have respected you too much, though God knows why, or they have been too afraid of you to really do right by you. The result is that you are unendurably uppity. You should be kissed and by someone who knows how." Margaret Mitchell GWTW

YUM!....one of my most fav reads indeed :)

  15. You have gotten me SO curious to read Gone With The Wind and now I can't find my copy! I will hunt it down though, oh yes.

I hope you don't consider this spammy (it's not mine so does that make is acceptable?) but I thought you might have fun with this:

And also the whole time I pondered sending you this link I kept singing, "We eat ham and jam and spam a looooooot!" from Monty Python. I. am. so. weird.

  16. I LOOOOOOOOOVE the 25th Les Miserables concert!!!! I've probably watched it at least 10 times in the past month... I can't get enough of it!! My dad finally recorded it for me on the laptop so I don't have to go to youtube or wait for it to be on tv. It's so amazing!!! I love each of the characters, and I also saw it live for the first time a couple of weeks ago. IT WAS SO GOOD!!!! But I also love the cast of the 25th (except for Nick Jonas, but he does ok considering he was only 17 when he did the performance). I'm so happy other people love it as much as me!!!! =]

  18. We rented the Les Mis anniversary DVD this past weekend.

Let me preface this by saying that I've read the unabridged book fully twice and parts of it multiple times. Then I got the musical cd and have loved it for almost a decade. I watched one of the movies for the first time last year and was very disappointed.

Then, I watched this DVD. It was absolutely breathtaking. It's one of the most wonderful things I've spent my time doing in a long time. I was a little surprised that Nick Jonas was on it, and I thought he was a little young to be Marius, but I thought he did a perfectly fine job.

hands down, though, the best part of the whole DVD was Gavroche. He was just as cute as he was supposed to be. And Eponine Enjolras was the second best part.

  19. That dress is really pretty! I like big patterns, they're so much prettier than the tiny ones which are all over stores here now.
