  4. My hero is and always will be Lieutenant William Bush!! Yes, he is fictional, but no one can beat Mr. Bush. As you probably know, he is from the Hornblower series and I think he's the best thing since sliced bread. Even though he's second in command, he manfully steps up to every task that's put to him and offers support to those who need it in the most gruff and stern way imaginable. Oh, and all of his threats! I adore them.

  34. This is probably the coolest, most epic, awesomest giveaway I have ever seen! My hero is probably Rebecca Bloomwood from the movie 'Confessions of a Shopaholic.' I love how she is so addicted to shopping that she totally can't stop; but then in the end she sees that there's more to life than shopping/spending money. Also, I LOVE her little saying in the movie, "Do I need this? Do I need this?!?!" I use that tip every once in a while. =)

  111. Heroes? Wow, I have a lot of heroes. Heroes are to me, people who I admire greatly. One of my heroes would have to be Mary. The young Mary of the Bible who did not question God for even a moment when he shared His amazing plan with her through an angel. Unquestioning faith? Now that's a hero.

    ReplyDelete

I'll choose my friend, Caroline- She's my model because she's always cheerful. not a gossipy friend, like most girls this age, and is a strong christian, great blogger, unforgettable friend, and an awesome photographer.
She's truly someone that will stick by you throughout all of lifes troubles, and will encourage you when times are tough. She's a true, true friend.

  118. I love this idea! One of my biggest heroes would definitely have to be my grandmother whom I call Abuela. She's dealt with a lot of crap in her life and has taught me to be strong.

She was born during the depression so right off the bat her life was not easy. She grew up having almost nothing and things just seemed to get worse from there. She got married to my grandfather and had six children, the youngest of which is my dad. Her husband was physically abusive and she finally divorced him when my dad was six-years-old.

She was then left to raise six children on her own while working two jobs. That was in the time when no one would hire her because she was a single mother so she had to work hard to prove that she deserved the job she was applying for. The technique she used was to work the job for free for a week and if she did good enough she was hired. She managed not only to take care of her own family, but others as well.

When some of her older children had grown up and moved out she gained a new one. My uncle had a friend who's parents had kicked him out of his home and he asked my grandma if his friend could stay for dinner. She willingly agreed and what was just supposed to be one dinner turned into three years of living with my grandma and my dad. We call the friend "the man who came for dinner."

Then, a few years before I was born her oldest son who'd lived in New York died from AIDS in his forties. She told me that not a day has gone by when she hasn't thought about him.

Abuela has taught me that God can get you through any trial or tribulation you face. Everyone loved and still do love her. I only get to see her once a year when we go to California in the Summer and when I'm there I love listening to her stories and words of encouragement for my life.

    Don't Give Up.

    Keep Pressing On.

    Never Lose Hope.

Because God is always on your side.

  119. Hey there dear Polka-Dot :) Rockin' giveaway! *is blown away*

My hero? Oh, gosh... well, I have several people I look up to, not all of them real people, but this one is... my mom. Honestly. My mom is the most amazing, godly, sweet, adorable, wonderful mom on the planet, and she's been a constant figure in my life, ALWAYS and has helped me and loved me and taught me every step of the way :) <3

    Again, amazing giveaway, girl ;)

    ReplyDelete
  120. I put your button in my sidebar :D

  121. I know this sounds cliche, but I don't care. My favorite hero is my husband. He waited a long time to marry me, and always tried to do what was best for me, long before we could be married. He is kind, patient, persevering, sticks to his guns, and most importantly, he loves God with his whole heart!

    ReplyDelete
  122. WOW! This is an AWESOME giveaway! One of my favorite heroes is William Wilberforce. He ended slavery in the British Empire against impossible odds. It took him years and yet he did it and no one thought he could!

I've put the blog giveaway button on my blog, everystory-storygirl.blogspot.com, and I'm already your follower :)

  137. Good news! Mom said I can enter the giveaway after all! :-D

Well, my real life hero is Annie Wolaver Dupre. She is the one who inspired me to seriously develop my talent for violin, and she is so bright, strong, and encouraging.

I have a few fictional heroes, too. Alf Arless in Lark Rise to Candleford is so unselfish and devoted to providing for his family in such hard circumstances. And then there is Alexandra Bergson of O Pioneers! who is brave and doesn't care what other people's opinion of her when she is doing the right thing.

  143. My hero is probably C. S. Lewis. If I have a thought about something, it probably came from him. I just love his perspective on everything and the way he can put it into words.

  144. One of my heroes, or role-models, I should say, is James Stewart. (Yes, one of those amazing actors from the early-mid 1900's. <3) He only married once, never divorced her, like many other people do. He was just a great guy, and a talented actor. There aren't many people that can act better than he can, in my opinion. :)

My hero is Audrey Hepburn. Elegant and gorgeous without being trashy; beautiful and smart at the same time. What every girl should strive to be.

  156. LOVE. (; Hmm.. my hero.. well, one person I have always admired since I started reading about her (when I was like... 8, I think?) is Corrie ten Boom. She was amazing. Also her sister, Betsie ten Boom. (And her father, Casper ten Boom... but that's three hero's... can I do that? Lol) They were three seriously amazing people who never lost faith in God. I know that I would NEVER be able to do what they did.
