Drooling over vintage clothing...

When we were at the beach last week (the sixth and last time for the summer), 

I checked out a kinda grungy-looking vintage shop. 

Because I've never ever been in a vintage store. 

And I love vintage! Problem? Yes.

I went in, even though it was called Garbo's Vintage.

And amongst the saggy baggy worn-out junk,

and the outdated weird dresses,

and the horrific 70's stuff,

and the lame guys' clothes...

There were treasures.

I found several lacy 50's dresses... the white one pictured above was... too small.

But the boot made me happy.

A couple cute outfits... how do ya like the fuzzy white hat? 

Sorta unsettling.

Darling blue heels... of course they were too small. 

What is up with vintage people being so stinkin' small??

I tried on this lovely wedding dress. It fit...as long as breathing was unnecessary.

Which it was.

But I would have bought it and worn it by any means possible...if it hadn't been $200.  

I left part of my soul in that shop, and I'm gonna have to go back to collect it.

I found this store online a couple months ago, and go look at it occasionally to drool over the adorable clothes. I ordered a catalog, so that I could drool with more comfort and leisure, and it was very satisfactory. I suggest you do the same. You can request a catalog here.

I bought this at online at MetroStyle this morning. It was only $10.19! SCORE. But the shipping brought it to $17.

Hopefully it works. I haven't bought anything online in a long time, and haven't bought a dress in ages. I'll let you now how I like it when it arrives. ;-)

ModCloth

ModCloth is a cool place. Basically everything is retro-inspired, and while some if it is quite ugly and/or immodest, some of it is super cute! A few of the dresses below would be too short for me, but some of them I would totally wear.

The collar on the navy blue dress is to die for.

J. Crew

This morning, I found some lovely summer dresses in the sale section of J. Crew website. A lot of the clothing from this store is very expensive, but this summer sale has some pretty sweet markdowns, plus the coupon code EXTRA30 takes off 30 percent of sale items, so many of the dresses are pretty reasonable.

I'm not a huge fan of purple, but this color is beautiful, and I love the dress design. It's halter neck though, which I'm not comfortable wearing, so I would wear it with a shrug.

So retro housewife.

I'm not sure it would ever be appropriate to wear a white dress like this except as a bride... but if it was, I'd wear it. :-)

Pretty

Vintage-style bridesmaids' dress I found here.

I love the pleats--they make the skirt full without making it bulky and fattening.

Kate Spade Clothing Line

This is not a "modest" clothing line, but I was impressed by some modest pieces, and an overall sweet, innocent flavor, with a quirky streak. :-)

Vintage

I love vintage clothing, especially from the 40's and 50's. The feminine silhouettes that were in fashion then are just lovely. I really don't care for the majority of the earlier 1900's, or the last half. But the 50's were just awesome. :-)

I think I like the fitted waist and full skirt look best when a belt is added. Especially for gals nowadays, who don't have two-inch rib cages, and such perfect waist definition. :-)

I love this dress! The sleeves are rather unusual, but quite pretty, and I just love the ribbon at the waist, the neckline, and the skirt.
