High School Musical

If you all think I'm immature and pitiable after reading this post...
that's okay. I gotta be honest.
Basically,
I love High School Musical.

My sister and I watched all three on the cruise, which is a perfect environment for languid movie-watching. Bethany, who isn't really into teenage romance movies, corniness, musicals, or basically anything that High School Musical contains, actually enjoyed it!

A couple years ago I was turning up my nose at the HSM paraphernalia being bought by the handful by giddy tweens. Now I've seen the light and am rummaging through the clearance racks for any remnants.

Sure, the movies contain cheese. But sometimes cheese is comforting. And despite the fact that Troy and Gabriella are in high school, their romance is darling and they are very non-creepy about the whole thing. : ) I love almost every single song, and Gabriella's wardrobe (though it degrades by the third one) starts out absolutely adorable.

Red and white baseball jersey. yes.
White suit. oh, yes.

Troy bugs me in the second one, but Chad. Chad is amazing. Remember how I like afros? Mmhmm.

I love Vanessa Hudgens' voice.

The last scene--my word. There are lanterns! Like in Tangled! I was screaming.

The third one is definitely my favorite. Even though Gabriella is kinda lame in it.

Dear future husband--can we please do this dance. in the rain. outside. for our wedding? k, thanks. bye.

And one of my favorite movie scenes/songs/guys of all time...
behold the awesomeness.

So... have you seen it? If not, you should. It's clean, corny amusement.
And if so...spill. What did you think?

  1. Wow you are brave. ;) HSM's ok, but one thing I cannot STAND is Vanessa Hudgen's "goody-goody" actor voice. *gag* It's probably because she's not like that at all in real life. Yes I realize movies aren't real life, but sometimes I have a hard time separating the two. ;)

  2. I looove those movies! I got hooked the day that they came out and I have almost every thing (I had socks, hat, shirts, etc.) I loove them!

  3. ahhh i remember the hsm days! ;) i totally agree with May Amelia.

  4. YES! I LOVE high school musical! While I was reading your post I was agreeing with everything you said!

  5. I LOVE them all! Much to the dissmay of my family, they all say that they don't like them, but they hum along and will sneek into the living room to watch....I think they may be secret HSM converts!=)

  6. I'm such a dork, but I love high school musical too. Those who know me have no idea, but that's okay. :)

  7. Those were the days... I used to be a huge fan of the movies, but now I don't really like them as much as I used to. Reading your post was a blast from the past...

  8. Confession time. I was 25 when it came out and I remember seeing stuff (cute stuff!) for it at Claire's and thinking "what in the world is this from?" and then I finally saw it on TV and I decided I would be brave and watch it because hey I love musicals. I thought it was totally cute. And...*blushes*...I was all glued to the TV when the second one came out. Again, totally cute. Cheesy? Super. I don't care. I even own the soundtracks and anytime any one asks "what time is it?" I feel like bursting out with "SUMMER TIME!"
I am suuuuuch a dork. I like cutesy sweet things though, can't help it. :)

  9. I've never seen them but your post makes me really want to! The trick will be finding a friend who is willing to watch them with me! =P

  10. My opinions (which you probably already know):
    They are awesome.
    I love them.
    Love Zac Efron.
    Love Chad.
    Love the music.
I rather dislike Vanessa, and when she giggles....ick. But I love ther clothes and her singing.
I wish I could dance like them.
In short, they are the most awesomest classic Disney cheesy movie ever. :) Yay for cheese. :)

  11. Ahh, the dancing in the rain- so beautiful! I haven't seen the third one, but maybe I will have to now. :)

  13. OH, yes. I can say, completely proudly, I love me some High School Musical. I can also say that I definitely cried in the third movie. My friends and I make it a tradition to get each other HSM stuff as gag gifts... so far I have an absolutely HORRID sweatshirt (that I love) and some Zac socks. Love it.

  14. When the first HSM came out I thoguth they were completely corny and stupid, so why bother watching them? I finally watched it cause it was the only thing on TV once and, low and behold, I enjoyed it! I actually listened to "Can I Have This Dance" in the car tonight. One of the sweetest songs in that movie! The third was probably the best, partly because Zach Efron sounded the best in that one over the other ones, partly cause it was just all around sweet. :)

  15. Hmmm, I'm loving this post! ;D I love High School Musical. I actually forgot how much I liked it until I read this post. ;) I like Troy and Gabriella's romance, and how sweet they are to each other. Dancing in the rain scene was SO romantic and sweet. ;) I loved it. I think the second one is my favorite, only because it's so summery. I really like the thrid one too. ;) I agreed with just about everything you said!! :D

  16. Ahhhhh.......HSM! I love the series! :) I agree with what you said. One of my favorite parts about the whole series is Zac Efron's blue eyes. :D They're adorable.
Whenever my youngest sister or my brother asks what time it is, more often than not, either my other sister, myself, or my dad will start singing the first song from the second movie. ;)
I love most of the songs!!!!

  18. VERY cheesy but I love all three movies. :) V has one of my favorite girl singing voices and I love her wardrobe in the movies. :)

  19. I l-o-v-e the soundtracks from the HSM movies. Often when a family member asks me "What time is it?" I'll automatically break into "Summerti-Ime!"

*receives strange glance from aforementioned family member* ;)

Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog and for entering my giveaway!

  20. I saw the title for this post and thought, "ohhhmydearsweetgoodness, what now?"
BUT--I really don't hate HSM. It's not my favorite thing, I'm not in love with it, I think all the obsessed tweens from a couple years ago could have chilled a bit...buuuut, it's fun. Sure, the storyline and characters can be cheesey at times, but there's the singing and dancing! Who doesn't want to have a high school where everyone breaks out in dance and song?
The second one I didn't care for. It made me upset at Troy. I liked the third one a lot--and yeah, that scene with "The Boys Are Back" = awesome. I actually haven't seen the first movie, because I saw it on Broadway. And it was reeeaally good!
*ahem* Just one more thing. I know many people dislike Zac Efron a lot because of his "cheesey HSM" years. But in all fairness, I don't think he's a bad actor, and I kinda like him. Though, I must admit...he's still a lot of fun to make fun of if you ever feel like picking on someone. xP

  21. LOL!! I love High School Musical!! Okay, not as much as I did when I first saw it, but I still love it. I agree with what you said on every movie, and the third is my favorite, because, well, it's newer, and the songs/choreography is better, the acting is pretty good, etc. My mom saw it one day and said it was good, but she didn't like the fact that something happened and they HAD to break out into song. She didn't really grasp the fact that it was a musical ;)

  22. I have only seen the first one and a little of the second, so I have no room where to criticize or praise it. I'll take your word for it..

  23. I'm totally with you..I loved all 3 of them because they were so sweet, and who wouldn't want to just break out into song and dance to solve problems? Seriously. I think it's an all around cute series :) Loved them. Don't care about how cheesy they were haha

  24. Ha ha! haven't seen it yet, but looks like a light and funny flick. Will have to check it out!

  25. Oh I forgot to add that there's rumored to be a "college years" hsm. That little tid bit was found from spending too much time on imdb.com. ;) But, like I said, only a rumor. You know how those can be.

  26. I'm going to feel like a heel...
I really don't like that song.
somehow, I don't become impressed by that kind of dancing. I mean, I know that I would look like a potato doing it, so I really do give them credit for being able to do what they did. and the things they do with the big tire looks.... AWESOME!
I so want to do that.
Since I know what Vanessa Hudgens is like in real life, it sort ruins Gabriella for me. :( otherwise, its a very cutesy movie! :)

  27. btw, of course I adore all of Gabrillas dresses! I pretty much drool all over them... TMI??? ;)

  28. I liked the movies! Have you ever seen Bandslam? It has Vanessa Hudgens. I absolutely love Bandslam!

  29. I'm inbetween...I used to love it. But then I got a little older and I still like it. The only problem is that I feel too old. But I am SO glad I know that someone else around my age enjoys it!

  30. I really really really didn't like the first one, I'd rather watch Grease, because the music is better. But then I watched the 2nd one when it came out, and I loved it. It was so good. I thought the 3rd one was a little bit of a let down, Gabriella drove me nuts.

  31. that's so funny! i've seen the first one. i liked it, but that was probably around 3 years ago. i should watch them all, now! :]

  32. i'll admit it, i'm a HSM person! love love love it. i used to be ashamed, but now...i have no prob telling you that Troy is totally swoon worthy. i mean... ;)

  34. Love this post so stinkin' much.

I finally overcome my pride and admitted that, in fact, I do enjoy watching High School Musical.

What is REALLY embarrassing is that I cried at the part where Gabriella and Troy break up in the second one. I NEVER CRY IN MOVIES.

I basically agree with everything you said :) Gabriella has CUTE clothes. Chad has awesome hair (and so does Troy, in the last one. My goodness.) I love The Boys are Back, and that one song in the second one where they play on all the pots and pans. And the one where they dance on top of the roof. hehe.

Really fun movies, specially if your in the mood for something cute and cheesy and peppy. :)

  35. I thought the first one was the best because it was so straightforward. It was like Romeo and Juliet or West Side Story only nobody died. I didn't like the second one as much and I didn't bother watching the third one.

But I liked the song you chose. It's insanely catchy.

  36. Oh Yes!! I love HSM! I must agree with you the the 3rd one is definitely the best! I saw it in theaters the first day it came out!!

  37. I have to admit, I'm not really into High School Musical. The first one was alright but I didn't appreciate the two others that much. But I do like some of their songs and dances.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hm, kinda iffy to me. It's ok, never really enjoyed it though. I watched the first two once and that was definitely enough. I guess I'm not that much into musicals, but I dunno. I kinda have to be in a "cheesy movie" mood to even sorta like it. Lol.

  39. I never seen any of them...I mean, I know the story line (who doesn't?) but I haven't actually sat down and watched them...maybe I should give them a shot.

  40. My guilty pleasure in the entertainment industry is Zac Efron movies. I feel ridiculous...but it's worth it! I pretty much watched HSM (only the first one) because I wanted to know what everyone was raving about. But I kind of liked it. Not a total waste of time, since I got to watch Zac Efron sing and dance for an hour and a half.

  41. "The boys are back" is totally my favorite scene too!!! I totally agree with you, they are good, corny, comforting movies. :).

And yes, I love Gabriella's hairstyles and outfits too.

  44. Oh yes, these movies are a little cheesy but the cheese is comforting ;) The dances and songs are pretty sweet and Troy and Gabriella's romance is so sweet and cute. Their scene on the rooftop, so beautiful!! gosh I'm so doing that on my wedding day too ;)
